The main principles of personal data protection

Article 4 of Law no. 1.565 of December 3, 2024 lists the 6 main principles of personal data protection that all data controllers must respect.

These are as follows:

  • the lawfulness, fairness, and transparency principle;
  • the purpose limitation principle;
  • the data minimization principle;
  • the data accuracy principle;
  • the storage limitation principle; and
  • the data security principle.
