The APDP's mission is to ensure that people's fundamental rights and freedoms are respected in a specific area: the use of their personal information.
The APDP at a glance
The APDP is the Authority responsible for controlling and verifying that personal data are processed in compliance with the relevant legislative and regulatory provisions applicable in the Principality.
So named the Personal Data Protection Authority (APDP), this Independent Administrative Authority is the successor of the Commission de Contrôle des Informations Nominatives (CCIN), instituted by the Law no. 1.165 of 23 December 1993, amended.
In the field
The APDP is responsible for controling and verifying that personal data are processed in compliance with the legislative and regulatory provisions in force with regard to the protection of personal data.
It has 20 missions, which can be summarised as follows:
- protecting and defending the rights of data subjects
- supporting and assisting with compliance
- ensuring compliance with legal obligations
- penalizing breaches of the law
The APDP at your side
The APDP meets in plenary or in restricted formation. This new division of powers appropriately divides the Authority’s powers between:
- the powers of investigation devolved to the plenary formation, excluding the restricted formation, and
- the powers of sanction exercised by the restricted formation.
