From firewalls to fire extinguishers, or the importance of physical security of premises housing personal data

Often, especially when it comes to data stored on an IT system, the notion of security and preservation is only considered from a strictly IT point of view, through the installation of various tools (e.g. firewalls, anti-virus, encryption, hashing, etc.).

However, data security is not limited to these aspects, and needs to be considered from a global perspective. There's no point in having a sophisticated system designed to prevent remote intrusions into an information system if it's easy to open the computer server room and connect directly to it.
